After that, I was hooked again and went on a spree to find the last dregs at retail.

At the time, I skipped Street Fighter, Ninja Force and Armor Tech (all three were super common) but didn't mind the neon figures and such. They were different from the figs I had as a kid, but that was kind of what made them interesting.Robot_Sonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14046347432548886565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-39743690303869114422020-12-24T04:07:08.622-07:002020-12-24T04:07:08.622-07:00I was well out of Joes by '92. I stopped collecting them in 1988 and didn't revisit until 1997.

I always wonder what I would have thought if I had gone back to a store--any store-- that had Joes in that time frame. Would I have begun again? Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-73735790136169804382016-12-13T22:16:35.110-07:002016-12-13T22:16:35.110-07:00Y'know, I was in high school when this figure ...Y'know, I was in high school when this figure came out, and I had been out of Joes for a few years. The last assortment I bought as a kid looking to expand his Joe and Cobra forces was in '88. I still picked up the comic though and still vigorously read the back issues. So, when updates to Snake Eyes, Rock N Roll and Stalker came out in 89, I picked them up. I count these as my first purchases as a "collector" as I intended not to play with these figures, but display them among my favorite Joe characters.

However, I didn't like the updated Stalker. When I bought Stalker in 82-83, I fell in love with him as a kid because of that green beret. My dad was in army special forces. He was a Green Beret. So, Stalker wearing the beret was a big deal. The sock hat worn by the Tundra Ranger just didn't cut it.

Fast forward to my high school years and I recall seeing this guy on the shelf. I very nearly pulled the trigger on him because there was finally an updated Stalker with a beret. However, the $10 price tag dissuaded me.

Fast forward again to 98/99. While I had been using email and the web for a few years in college, I just became aware of ebay. The TRU exclusives had renewed my interest in collecting Joes, so the first thing I did was peruse ebay for deals on figures I had missed out on. I got a Talking Stalker in a lot, and thankfully that godawful backpack was gone.

With the figure in hand, I was sure disappointed. I noticed pretty much everything you did. The paint apps just don't cut it, the flat back stinks, and yes I also noticed that overloaded ankle that throws off the shape of the figure, especially with the very slender torso. I did like the head ok, forgiving the goofy snarl. It was a ball jointed Stalker head, and I wasted no time putting it on an 87 Falcon body... eventually leading to a full on custom a year or so later when I started painting my figures. Anyways, an updated beret wearing Stalker should have delivered in so many ways, and this one just fails in pretty much all of them.Wowboynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-6045454234544367942016-12-13T21:37:14.702-07:002016-12-13T21:37:14.702-07:00If they were going to follow the Euro TF scheme, t...If they were going to follow the Euro TF scheme, they should have the 2003's match them more closely. The set was just bad with those color choices. Blue doesn't really work for Joes unless they're law enforcement.

Didn't realize these were $10 figs back in the day. But, the 1/2 price at Hills makes more sense and why they hung around for more than 4 years while all the other figs were long gone.Robot_Sonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14046347432548886565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-29362870609194954312016-12-13T12:21:54.731-07:002016-12-13T12:21:54.731-07:00The Battle Commanders were heavily clearanced back...The Battle Commanders were heavily clearanced back in the day. Originally $10 each! In 1992 money that was 3 regualr Joes or a smaller vehicle or 1 regular figure and a sonic fighter. I bought Overkill and waited for clearance on the other three or got one as a gift and the other two for clearance.

As far the figure goes, giant pack aside (I removed them), the thing that bugs me most if that overloaded left ankle of his.

Not sure why his weapons look like they belonged with Destro and Roadblock.

The Tiger Force version was overall worse, because blue for a accent color on a JOE is worse than mustard yellow.
