I was 8 in 1990 so my re-collection of the Joes of the 80s was alot of second hand stuff from my older brother or seeing those toys in used condition past their prime. I still remember going through the Terror On The Tundra booklet - seeing Serpentor (who I actually remember having as a kid), the FANG, the Whale, General Hawk etc. and always wanting to ask my parents if I could get something but I never did. I think the Whale was always the item I got hung up on for obvious reasons. Seeing the prices of the Ninja Viper and Steel Brigade as to what they have become in the present day is obvious. The Hasbro Canada find is something I never heard of so thanks for sharing that little bit of post ARAH vintage Joe history. I usually get nostalgic for Joe this time of year and can still recall getting the ARAH collectors figs back in 2000 around this time as well as some very early ebay hauls I got with my spending money in high school. Also, thanks for calling out the snobbery and ridiculous prices that have really come about in the past few years!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-43029371961929366262020-10-04T14:17:30.061-07:002020-10-04T14:17:30.061-07:00Those front skis are prone to getting brittle and ...Those front skis are prone to getting brittle and breaking...over time, anyway. scockeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06529455395117665960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-13462996825663227022020-10-02T12:21:30.832-07:002020-10-02T12:21:30.832-07:00How dare you besmirch the good name of the Polar B...How dare you besmirch the good name of the Polar Battle Bear?!Dylan Sharekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14773855976911721763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-41732599805182333272020-10-02T11:15:35.348-07:002020-10-02T11:15:35.348-07:00I got the WHALE, WOLF, and Ninja-Viper from that p...I got the WHALE, WOLF, and Ninja-Viper from that promotion. I have a microfigures poster too that must've come with the order. Lots of memories...convincing my parents to splurge on a mail-away WHALE was one of the highlights of my childhood since I'd seen pictures in old catalogs, and found parts of them at flea markets, but never came close to assembling a full one. For some reason I have a distinct memory of thinking that the WOLF's missiles were too small to poison the ozone layer, so it must really be there for ground combat, to guard the Adder and its heavy payload. The black missile launcher seemed out of place but the main reason to order was to get the blue canopies, since I had a couple of flea market Wolves but they never came with the canopies and weren't much use that way. I was also disappointed that when the Ninja-Viper came the eyes weren't painted the cool way they were in the catalog. I wish I'd ordered a couple more of those (and a GHSB!) but I hadn't started army-building yet.

Anyway, the catalog features a really bizarre assortment of figures, especially in the WHALE. The mail-order catalogs were often like that, which teased me as a kid because I wanted those old figures but couldn't order THEM like I could the vehicles!General Liederkranzhttps://www.instagram.com/gen_liederkranz/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730351558727980814.post-84507892999849970302020-10-01T22:06:46.530-07:002020-10-01T22:06:46.530-07:00I had gotten some Ninja Vipers and Hawk from that ...I had gotten some Ninja Vipers and Hawk from that form. I also ordered the PAC-RATS, from this or another form and got...a refund. Months of waiting. I wanted more strato-vipers and Motor-Vipers but had my fill of the FANG and $12 was 4 regular figures at retail. Like you, I felt the prices seemed high. Gone were the 80's prices of $4 HISS tanks. On the other hand, more figures were offered. Late 80's Figures were either the driver sets or previous mail-aways...and Bazooka for some reason. Bludd and Cobra Officer from the "original JOe team" form carried over for a few years, but not long enough. A-Mannoreply@blogger.com
