The 1991 Super Sonic Fighters Zap is an example of how an original character should be updated. The figure is easy to see as Zap. But, he's also updated in a dramatic way that helps him blend with later figure releases. He is excellently colored and includes a pretty solid array of weaponry. Here's the best of him from around the web.
1991 Zap Profile
It was great to see Zap rocking the stache on this figure! Never owned it but definitely admired it as a kid.
ReplyDeleteThis was the figure I wanted back in 1985 instead of Bazooka in the football jersey.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet is reversible? Mind blown!
ReplyDeleteIn all these years I've owned this figure, I had never once considered putting the helmet on to cover his eyes like a visor. The shape of the helmet seems to fit more naturally the other way, covering the entire back of his head and exposing his eyes.
DeleteHowever, that ridge sure looks like it was intended to go in front. The cart art shows him with the ridge forward and a visor over his eyes, which suggests that as the correct orientation. At the same time, the other side of the helmet looks very wrong only covering half of the back of his head, and the visor part doesn't fit well over his nose, making the whole thing feel like it's backwards.
Now I don't know what to do!
