Dialtone remains a personal favorite of mine. Ever since my younger brother found him sitting on a random shelf at Target and got our first 1986 figure, I've felt that Dialtone was a figure I missed out on. I've never been able to overcome that initial disappointment. So, to this day, I use the figure way more than I should. And, it's nearly impossible for me to express how much I like the figure. I can't have a rational discussion about him.
So, here's a bunch of 1986 Dialtone figures taken over the years. My favorite is the last one where he's in the Hum-Vee. I miss those cheapo, generic military toys you used to be able to find at Toys R Us and, for a short while, Amazon. They were a great way to expand the Joe line. After that non-sequitur, enjoy the photos below.
Dialtone is tops in my book bc he is the only Joe from my home state: Oregon. :) Go Ducks!
ReplyDeleteNever liked him. Bad paint job and hate that mustache 😒
ReplyDeleteDial-Tone was always one of those characters that struck a chord with me. Really any of the figures with berets were just equated to special forces to me as a kid - Flint, Dial-Tone, Falcon (obviously), 1991 Dusty etc. Always thought it was cool that both Dial-Tone and Mainframe came out in the same year and had specialties that were somewhat complimentary to each other. Never got my hands on an original Dial-Tone until my adult collector days but had a Sonic Fighters Dial-Tone as a kid that got alot of play time.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - agree on those military toy lines from the late 2000s to mid 2010s - for awhile I did compliment and build around some of those vehicles and they certainly filled voids in the joe verse.
Same here....any character with a beret was special forces...an even badder-assed subgroup of Joes (as compared to the regular team members).
DeleteI still kind of feel that was as an adult, even though I'm old enough to understand the absurdity of going into combat with a fancy hat instead of a proper helmet.
I must admit I lean more towards the more recent, female Dial Tone but the male version definitely has more figures. -Chev
ReplyDeleteDial Tone is so crucial to any collection that I have never thought about if he's a "good" figure or not. He's just required.
ReplyDeleteEvery team and every base needs a comms guy. Other than Breaker, and I guess Deejay if you like BF2000, there aren't many options. I suppose Mainframe counts, or if you're desperate, Psyche Out or Scoop.
But if I'm forced to rate Dial Tone, there's not much to dislike. Good colors, military beret, chrome gadgets everywhere, and amazing gear. I love the giant microphone and high tech backpack and even his gun. If you need someone who can shoot and talk, he's your guy.
He’s okay, I prefer 2000& ‘02 versions. I liked the colors more.
ReplyDeleteUnpopular opinion, but I love the Mission Brazil version.
DeleteHe does make for a decent desert version
ReplyDeleteYou are correct , sir, I completely forgot about him, he’s awesome
