The prices on this figure are still dumb. I'll just open with that statement. Because, it seems everyone has forgotten that Funskool figures were widely available in the US and every collector who was active during the early 2000's had all the Funskool figures they could ever want. But, memories are short.
Not a ton of people use this figure. But, there's some fun stuff out there showcasing him. The bright colors are a hallmark of Funskool but also create a really nice visually distinctive toy. I really miss Funskool. It's been over 15 years since they've made G.I. Joe figures. So, I don't think we're ever going to see the line return. But, it was fun while it lasted.

I have this guy! I bought him and a bunch of the Funskool figs back in the day. I wish I was less selective. I passed on a bunch of them for various reasons. They had "bad" colors, or they weren't different enough from their US versions, or they had accessories I didn't like. I put my Funskool figs in a separate drawer from my "real" Joes and considered them inferior knock offs.
ReplyDeleteIn retrospect I should have bought multiples of each. Now I appreciate their weirdness and/or subtle differences much more. The red shirt on Funskool Tunnel Rat looks fantastic. But it's still hard to believe he's actually expensive now.
You’re not wrong; he’s stupid expensive. Still one of my favorite figures in all of his versions
ReplyDeleteI've always been torn on this guy. I love Tunnel Rat. However, the Sonic Fighters version is easily my least favorite color scheme of the U.S. releases. Back in the day, the Funskool TR always struck me as the Sonic Fighters TR with the color values slightly adjusted. Nowadays, I can appreciate the figure a bit more on his own merits, but I'll probably never like him enough to pursue ownership of one. Cool to see some pictures of him in action, though
