1990 Sonic Fighter Law - Around The Web

1990 introduced new subsets to the Joe line.  The Sonic Fighters were a higher priced, premium figure.  The selling point was a huge backpack that made a bunch of primitive electronic sounds.  For 1990, the tech was fine.  Now, it seems painfully dated.  The figures also included extra weapons...most of which made no real sense with the figures.  But, the figures themselves were repaints of earlier molds.  And, all of them were solid designs.  You can argue that Law is the best of the set.  But, there's a couple of other figures who also have a legit claim to the crown.

The upside is that there's some decent content featuring the 1990 Law out there.  Check out the content below and enjoy seeing this Law in action.

  1. I LOVE this version of Law! Give him his '87 accessories and you are golden.

I remember as a kid picking out the '87 Law & Order at our local Long's Drug. He was hilarious in the movie ("He finds the bombs, I drive the car. We tried it the other way, but it didn't work."), plus he came with a German Shepard and a cool uzi. A pretty fantastic figure all around, but his colors were a bit loud. Bright red and blue on the same Joe is kind of nuts. That should be a Cobra thing. Other '87 Joes like Fast Draw had the same problem.

But Sonic Fighter Law fixes that. The muted greens and khaki are just fantastic. He's worth getting incomplete and in multiples.

    1. When it comes to repaint figures after 1990 that came with horrible accessories, as a rule I try to re-equip them with copies of the gear from the original figure. In almost all cases this makes a huge improvement.

    2. I tend to agree with you about the repaint accessories. Though, the 1991 SSF had some cool designs. Oddly, though, my most preferred weapon for Falcon is that oddball arm wrapping thing from the 1991 figure. I love it and don't know why. That figure, though, needs the Night Force backpack to really feel complete.

  2. Sonic Law is definitely a gem but is he the best SF figure? 🤔 Methinks SF Dialtone is a tad better. That said, the SF Viper has gotta be the best of the bunch. He's gold (!!!) and looks like he was built to be Overlord's personal army.

  3. This version of Law is great. Changing out the Blue/orange for the different shades of green for his torso and khaki pants just works very well. The Sonic Fighters line did have some great figures.
