The 1991 Super Sonic Fighters Zap is an example of how an original character should be updated. The figure is easy to see as Zap. But, he's also updated in a dramatic way that helps him blend with later figure releases. He is excellently colored and includes a pretty solid array of weaponry. It was great to see Zap rocking the stache on this figure! Never owned it but definitely admired it as a kid.

ReplyDeleteIn all these years I've owned this figure, I had never once considered putting the helmet on to cover his eyes like a visor. The shape of the helmet seems to fit more naturally the other way, covering the entire back of his head and exposing his eyes.
DeleteHowever, that ridge sure looks like it was intended to go in front. The cart art shows him with the ridge forward and a visor over his eyes, which suggests that as the correct orientation. At the same time, the other side of the helmet looks very wrong only covering half of the back of his head, and the visor part doesn't fit well over his nose, making the whole thing feel like it's backwards.
Now I don't know what to do!
I have to say, my favourite version of the character, as l do like the bit more Sci-fi look he had. And his Sonic Fighters Backpack is neat, in that it can be viewed also as a mini robot/computer like tank. Like his accessories as well. And like both Dan and Josh Z stated back in Mid-October 2020, I would personally have never realized that the helmet could be reversible as well, even by judging by pics. But I have to say, I do like the option.
ReplyDeleteWhen things get a bit more better for me financially, I do hope to get this version complete down the road. I suppose if I had a choice, I would like to get the more Silver Colour Accessories version than the Grey version, but I'll most likely take whatever I can get.
1 thing I forgot to mention: I do like that his suit base suit is Green, as it's a nice nod/homage to his Original 13 Green Shirt look. I would say that it's similar to how Version 3/Super Sonic Fighters version of Rock N Roll had a Green Shirt as well.
