The Top 10 - 2025

This is my 10th Top 10.  We look back at an interesting year in Joe.  Hasbro abandoned 3 3/4" figures entirely.  But, Super7 picked up the mantle and delivered the largest contingent of figures we've seen since the heyday of the repaint era.  Sadly, the ReAction+ figures are expensive.  And, their heavy cartoon focus falls outside of my main interest.  So, while they are the real story of 2025 from a Joe perspective, they have little bearing on my past year.  The same is true of Black Major and Lady Jaye Toys.  They've done some amazing stuff this year, really upping their game.  But, for many reasons, they're products haven't spoken to me.  And, I've avoided new acquisitions from them.  And, lastly, kickstarters have come and gone.  Many haven't been funded.  And, some that have continue to underwhelm when the final product is in hand.  Again, I'm not interested in tacti-cool self insert characters that use Joe articulation but have no other connection to the Joe brand.

I remain in a Joe acquisition moratorium.  It's just pure lack of interest.  I haven't bought anything in two years.  And, that's lead to some isolation.  If you're not talking about the newest and upcoming, you're just shouting into the void.  I don't really see my collection growing in 2026, either.  I'm just at a point where nothing's compelling enough to get me to buy it.

The most popular items on the site in 2025 was kind of weird.  It seems that unappreciated figures did really well.  You'll see from the list that some of the figures aren't the type of thing that you'd think people would want to read about.  But, I suspect that their relatively low place in the Joe world actually makes them interesting these days.  Everyone's read about Snake Eyes and see his figures everywhere.  But, Skidmark?  Only a special kind of sadist would write a few hundred words about him.  And, that drew people in.

So, here's the top 10 for 2025:

10. 2018 Red Laser Army Redmack - 654 page views

Factory Customs tend to do well.  Though, they aren't the guaranteed hits they used to be.  Redmack has the cachet of being a rare character that's now attainable.  He's visually interesting and still not all that common to see in the Joe content of the day.

2018 Redmack, Red Laser Army, Factory Custom, 2017, The General, 1988 Mean Dog

09.  1990 Laser Viper - 663 page views

I've really struggled to find words for the 1990 Laser Viper.  My first profile on him wasn't great.  And, this 2nd one still wasn't quite where I wanted it to be.  But, I had fun taking photos of him out in the ice and snow.  And, he ended up in the top 10.  So, that's not too bad.

1990 Laser Viper, 2004 Urban Assault Scrap Iron, Toys R Us Exclusive

08.  Swampmasher - 665 page views

I wish I had more Joe vehicles.  But, then, I have to pack up my collection and I see all the boxes and I think I should sell 2/3 of the ones I do have.  Some day, I'm going to get settled into a house that I live in for more than 3 or 4 years.  Maybe, then, I'll be able to get all my vehicles out and expand my collection a bit.  Vehicle prices have come down in recent years.  But, it's getting harder to find mint and complete versions as the plastic ages.  So, no guarantees, even if I have grandiose plans.

1988 Swampmasher, 1993 Dino Hunters Ambush, Toys R Us Exclusive, 1994 Metal Head, 2000 Dial Tone, ARAHC

07. 1986 Stun - 679 page views

Vehicles always do well.  While figures are documented to death, Joe vehicles remain something that is less often seen.  They're big, bulky and a pain to get out.  But, they add so much to a photo.  The STUN was a childhood favorite.  And, it was fun to reminisce about it.

1986 STUN, 1993 Headhunter, Headhunter Stormtrooper, Gristle, DEF

06. 2005 Winter Operations Frostbite - 687 page views

Snow photos did really well in 2025.  The 1993 Iceberg came in at #11 on the list.  And, some other profiles that featured photos in the snow also did well.  We got a massive snowfall early in the year and it lingered for quite some time.  So, I got hundreds of photos out in it to replenish my well of content.  On top of that, the Winter Operations is an obscure 2005 release.  (We'll see that theme appear again, later.)  Not many collectors pay it much mind.  So, this figure was a curiosity for many who couldn't place the figure without a visual reminder.

2005 Winter Operations Frostbite, Toys R Us Exclusive

05. 1993 Alley Viper - 751 page views

This was a profile I did in conjunction with the Attica Gazette.  This bumblebee colored Alley Viper is more popular than it should be.  He's a fun army builder and is true to the Alley Viper character.  It all added up to a solid showing for a major character in one of his less famous color schemes.

1993 Alley Viper, 1988 Secto Viper

04. 2025 Pythona - 798 page views

I don't know if I'll get a Pythona figure.  My local Target stopped stocking ReAction+ Joes over the summer.  She's the type of release that Super7 does well.  But, $25 is a lot to swallow for a character to whom I have no attachment.  But, she's, exactly, the type of figure that should appear in the ReAction+ line.  Super7's been mediocre with their figure assortments this year.  I hope they move away from the cartoon heavy influence.  But, I suspect they wanted to ensure that the owner got every figure he wanted as a kid before the line gets cancelled.  Now that they've hit the main characters, I'm hoping they delve into more ephemera like they did in the 5 POA line.

ReAction+, Super7, Pythona

03. 2005 Heavy Assault Set Duke - 811 page views

Ummm...I have no idea?  This is not a good figure.  But, the circumstances around the HAS set's release have been mostly forgotten.  You simply don't see the HAS figures used at all these days.  I suspect that obscurity lead to curiosity as it's not a figure you see all that often.  And, hard as it is to believe, this Duke is also 20 years old, now.  I'd have never guessed this was a top 3 profile of the year.  But, still not the biggest surprise on the list.

2005 HAS Duke, Heavy Assault Set, Toys R Us Exclusive, Snake Eyes

02. 1988 Skidmark - 834 page views

The biggest surprise goes to Skidmark.  He's the number 2 most viewed post of the year.  Which, makes little sense.  As mentioned above, though, I suspect that Skidmark's lack of popularity actually makes him more click-worthy.  You always see the big characters and rare figures out there.  You don't see Skidmark.  He's something new.  And, that brought in the eyeballs.

1988 Skidmark, Spearhead

01. My Favorite Accessories Part 1 - 855 page views

This was my personal favorite piece of the year.  It gave me a chance to talk about some of the key weapons from my childhood and the stories associated with them.  Later installments of this series also did very well and fell in the top 20.  So, it's a subject that resonated with people.  I'll have some more of these coming in 2026, too.

1985 Flint, 1984 Mutt, Alpine, 1986, Leatherneck, General Hawk

So, that wraps up 2025.  I hope your year was good.  2026 will be fun.  I'm going to revisit some of the earliest figures profiled on the site and see how my views have changed in 25 years.  I've got more essays about some of the aspects of the line that really appealed to me back when I was a kid.  Rarities Month will be back with some obscure and interesting stuff, too.  I'm holding out hope that Super7 will reach bottom of the cartoon well and we might finally see a Dr. Venom or the khaki Kwinn figure.  Until then, have a great year!

The Top 10 - 2024

So, here is the top 10 most viewed pages on the site for 2024.  The main takeaway is that Cobra Commander is always popular. (Different photos of him made up 2 of my top 9 Instagram photos, too.)  People also like to read about terrible vintage figures: especially from 1987.  Posts made in the first half of the year dominate the most viewed.  Traffic really fell off in the second half.  But, big social media sites now deliberately throttle posts with links to outside websites.  So, that limits who can see any promotion I do.  But, there were still 260,000+ pageviews and over 600 comments left last year.  So, that's really cool.

2023 Failsafe - 1008 Page Views

This 1 year retrospective of the Skystriker Haslab garnered a lot of views.  There was some good discussion on him, too.  In short, Fail Safe is an ok figure that works in the context of post vintage ARAH style releases.  But, the Skystriker has also fizzled out on the secondary market: largely due to oversaturation and the general banality of the figures.

2023 Fail Safe, Haslab, Skystriker, 2022, Stalker

1984 Hooded Cobra Commander - Around The Web - 999 Page Views

The first Cobra Commander on this list.  Around the Web features tend to do about 1/2 the traffic of profiles.  But, this one exploded.  Cobra Commander is awesome and this iconic look got attention.

1984 Hooded Cobra Commander, Mail Away, Black major, Crimson Guard

2024 O-Ring Ghostbusters Debut - 686 Page Views

These figures were a complete surprise.  Reaction to them was overwhelmingly positive.  The figures have just started shipping in recent weeks.  I'm hoping to get a set to profile at some point in 2025.

2024 Ghostbusters

1987 Raptor - 565 Page Views

Raptor is a terrible figure.  Larry Hama made sour lemonade out of lemons, though, and got him a more memorable run in the comic than the figure certainly deserved.

1987 Raptor

1987 Taurus - 545 Page Views

Taurus benefits from his 1987 release year and association with Sgt. Slaughter from the cartoon.  So, a poorly designed (but well sculpted!) figure has its fans.

1987 Taurus, 1988 Iron Grenadier

2004 Night Force Short Fuse - 478 Page Views

Another theme is that figures from the 2000's tend to do fairly well when it comes to views.  Night Force is a collector friendly theme.  And, Short Fuse is uses a great mold.

2004 Night Force Short Fuse, Short Fuze, Toys R Us Exlcusive

2005 Clear Cobra Commander - 477 Page Views

The second Cobra Commander on the list is also a 2000's era figure.  This clear figure is a gimmick that works.

2005 Clear Cobra Commander, Comic Pack, Crimson Guard, Tele Viper, 1985

1985 Snake Eyes - 454 Page Views

The 1985 Snake Eyes might be the best figure in the Joe line.  And, this was my 25th Anniversary profile.

1985 Snake Eyes, 2004 Night Force Tunnel Rat

Rarities - 1986 Promotional Poster - 429 Page Views

This promo from 1986 is full of pre-production figures.  That's one of the most popular years of Joe figures.  And, it was my most view Rarities post of 2024.

1986 Toy Fare Promotional Catalog

1994 Star Brigade Sci Fi - 420 Page Views

Star Brigade (and 1990's figures in general) have gotten more popular in recent years.  I'm going to revisit my favorite figure from the subset in 2025.  Need to get some pics of him!

1994 Star Brigade Sci Fi, 1991 Sonic Fighters Rock and Roll

We'll see what 2025 brings.  We should see some decent Super7 figures.  (Unless their venture capital overlords do them in first.)  Black Major has some amazing stuff coming and is always good for a few surprises.  LadyJayeToys has teased some Jinx and Pilot Scarlett/Ace figures, too.  So, there should be a lot happening in the world.  What resonates is always surprising, though.  So, it will be fun to see what captures your attention next year.

The Top 10 - 2023

2023 was a good year and a slow year.  Overall, site traffic was actually way, way up.  Pages were viewed over a quarter of a million times.  And,  there were over 400 comments posted on various profiles and articles.  Individually, though, post views were somewhat down.  Most profiles sat right around 200-225 page views.  But, a few items broke through and got some good engagement.  The theme of the year, though, is Super7.  They occupy 3 of the top 10 slots.  But, that's about all that's really happening in the 3 3/4" Joe world.  So, their popularity isn't surprising.  (Especially, with the "hate views" that Super7 stuff tends to get.)

Aside from that, there's nothing that really stands out other than the 2000 ARAHC Big Ben.  I have no idea why he resonated so well with the community.  But, he was the most mundane entry in this list.  The Black Major Steel Brigade Ranger and the 1991 Badger were the last two posts to fall just outside the top 10.  So, the year was more standard than others we've had, recently.

So, onto the list of the site's most popular posts in 2023:

I haven't looked a ton of the Street Fighter figures from the vintage Joe line.  And, among them, Blanka is one of the most visually distinctive.  That added up to the 10th most viewed page of the year.

1993 Street Fighter Blanka, 1994 Viper

There was a time when this profile would have lapped the field.  But, those days are past and Satan, despite the current high pricing, is a bit passe in the Joe world.  This still was popular enough to break the top 10.  But, I thought it might have done better.

Satan, Plastirama, Argentina, Stormshadow, Red Ninja

Shipwreck is the first of three Super7 appearances in the top 10.  This figure is neat due to the Brazilian origins of the design.  Super7 figures are what they are.  And, in 2024, Joe fans will see what the company can do with o-ring figures.  I fully expect them to just be sculpting similar to this figure but with the additional joints.  Regardless, I'll take their line as a supplement to my Joe collection and use it to fill out missing holes and such.  But, there's just no way I'll buy more than a handful of figures from the first few waves.

Super7, Tiger Force, Shipwreck, Marujo, 2023

The first Super7 figure I looked at clocks in as the 7th most viewed profile of the year.  Ninja Ku is well known.  But, being a Target exclusive, he was also clearance fodder.  And, that's how I got him.  We have seen from the Target computer that Duke, Snake Eyes, Ragnar and a blonde Cover Girl are planned for the first wave of o-ring figures from Super7.  (I expect there's more, unannounced figures to come, too.)  It will be interesting to see how they play at retail in late 2024.

Super7, Ninja Ku, Ninja Black, Plastirama, Argentina, Target Exclusive, 2022

I miss Red Laser Army.  There was a hoax going around that he was returning.  But, he's focused on his Kickstarter o-ring line of ninjas that looks great.  Figures like this Kickstart version are a great supplement to a Joe collection.  You can use him as a different look for Snake Eyes or as a new character.  The blank slate is something we're missing in the line these days.

Kickstart V2, Red Laser Army, Snake Eyes, Black Major, Factory Custom, Sightline, 2017, Steel Brigade Ranger, 2023

Rarities month was a dud this year.  But, this Mega Marines Toy Fair Catalog post did break out.  It has tons of action and features some pre-production figures among the displayed toys.  I don't have much for Rarities Month in 2024.  But, it will still go ahead, even if it's just a handful of posts.

1993 Toy Fair Catalog, Mega Marines

Yeah, I have no idea.  This Big Ben is the compulsory oddball in every year's top 10.  The upside, though, is that this really is a great figure and one of the better repaints not only of that time, but in any era.

2000, 2001, Big Ben, ARAHC

In my 2022 Top 10, I mention there were rumors of a Soundwave with Zartan and Zarana.  Well, it turned out to be true.  The reveal of it was the third most viewed page of the year.  It was also the only 3 3/4" G.I. Joe that Hasbro released to retail in 2023.  For 2024, we have a Hawk/MOBAT that's confirmed and rumors of a Triple T with Sgt. Slaughter and another, unknown Transformer coming with Leatherneck.  All three sound like bigger duds than the Thunder Machine.  We'll see what we end up getting, especially since the smaller retailers that Hasbro duped into buying the Thunder Machine are currently sitting on really expensive stock that isn't moving and won't be buying any future offerings in this ill-conceived line.

2023, Soundwave, Thunder Machine, Zartan, Zarana

The Skystriker figures were the talk of the community upon their release.  And, this Scarlett did very well.  Now, the figures are both old news and relatively forgotten.  The aftermarket crash for the plane and the figures have left many collectors sour.  I have another Skystriker profile that will show up in the first few weeks of 2024.  So, we'll see how that compares.

2023 Pilot Scarlett, Haslab, Skystriker, 1985 Snake Eyes

I followed the failed Cobra Mothership on a (mostly!) weekly basis.  Overall, the posts relating to the Mothership were viewed over 2500 times and it was the most popular subject on the site this year.  It's too bad that the ship failed.  Cool, big, expensive toys should get made every now and then.  And, when you consider that you could have gotten the Mothership for the same price as 2 each of the Megatron/Baroness, Bumblebee/Stalker and Soundwave/Zartan sets, it really puts the failure into perspective.  But, Joe fans are cheap.  And, we are few.  That's not a combo that sets you up for great success.  And, the Mothership's demise was just another knot in the string of dead bodies that the Joe line has left behind since the first reboot failed back in 2001.

Super7, Cobra Mothership

So, that wraps up 2023.  Really, I ended up doing way more with  the site this year than I had anticipated.  But, I found some good photo subjects.  And, Super7 gave me some nice content in the 4th quarter that disguised my otherwise dearth of updates.  I've got some fun stuff ready to go in January and February.  But, I'm behind on picture taking.  This time of year is rough as everything is just brown and  uninteresting.  I'll find something, though.

I hope your year was excellent and wish you a happy 2024.  In November, we'll mark the site's 25th Anniversary.  At that point, I'll have been doing this for half my life.  Perhaps, that's a wasted life.  But, hobbies are just that.  We'll have lots to discuss in 2024, though, between new products, Black Major and Kickstarters.  Some of that will be good, some will be terrible and most will be the forgettable layer in between.  But, we'll cover it all.  We'll write it down.  And, maybe, some day in the future, that info will be a valuable marker of sentiment or fact regarding a release that would otherwise be lost to time.

Until then, I wish you all well and sincerely thank you for stopping by to share the Joe hobby with me.

The Top 10 - 2022

2022 has been a weird year.  My post engagement plummeted from the highs I'd see even in 2020 and 2021.  This seems odd since o-ring Joes finally returned.  But, that return was pretty quiet and even army builders and figures matched up with Transformers are not selling out.  We're seeing prices on non-high end items fall, some down more than 30% from their pandemic highs.  Retail is stagnating for all collectible toy lines.  Though, I do think part of that is just too much shipped too soon after months and months of nothing new showing up.  But, the pandemic surge in home bound hobbies is over.  And, the fallout is going to take years to fully understand.

Personally, though, I've finally hit the beginnings of burnout.  I've been posting over twice a week on this site for over 7 years, now.  With nearly 900 posts since 2015 the reality is that I've run out of things to talk about.  Sure, there are figures I've never profiled.  But, most of them are either more expensive than I want to pay.  Or, they are so similar to things I've already covered that there's little reason to showcase them.

But, I've also gotten a bit stagnant.  With thousands of photos under my belt, I find that I've done a lot and am heavily gravitating towards using the same figures over and over again.  While that repetition works well on a platform like Instagram, it's not as useful for this site to talk about the 1985 Flint every other week.  When I get inspired, I do get the photos I want.  But, I'm finding that those sessions are fewer and farther between, even though I now have access to all my vehicles and playsets.

All of this has lead to malaise.  And, is going to lead to a reduced volume of posts in 2023.  I still expect at least one per week.  My drafts folder is over 500 posts large.  So, I have a ton of content left to post.  I just think it will be slower.  You can be sure that I'll profile at least a couple of the Skystriker figures when they drop.  And, I never really know what I'll find in my travels during the year.  But, the days of 100+ posts per year are done for at least 2023 while I see if I recharge.

The top 10 posts of 2022 were dominated by a single theme: new releases.  3 of the top 10 posts are profiles of 2022 releases.  There are 3 Rarities posts in the top 10, too.  But, they got like 1/3 of the page views that a standard Rarities post used to get back in 2017 through 2019.  There's a few surprises in here.  But, people like to read about the newest stuff.

So, here are the top 10 posts of 2022:

10. 1991 Cesspool - 356 page views

This was my second Cesspool profile.  And, the uptick in interest in 1990's releases definitely manifested with this write up.  Cesspool might be the best new Cobra character released in the '90's.  And, he got some attention.

1991 Eco Warriors Cesspool, 1992 Destro, 1997 Baroness

09. 1991 Snake Eyes - Around the Web - 385 page views

I knew that the 1991 Snake Eyes had a lot of younger fans.  But, I had no idea how many of them there really were.  Around the Web posts typically do 150-180 page views.  So, this did more than double that: showing the popularity of this figure.

1991 Snake Eyes, Night Creeper, 1990

08. Rarities - The Great 2021 Ninja Commando Lot - 388 page views

In late 2021, some guy on Ebay posted up a huge lot of late run G.I. Joe figures.  He wasn't sure what he had.  But, it turns out that it was the largest lot of unproduced 1995 Ninja Commando figures ever found.  Someone won the lot fair and square.  But, butthurt aftermarket sellers messaged the seller with higher offers.  And, in 2022, the figures were sold in market priced lots after the seller figured out what he had. So, there are now dozens of additional loose sets out there.  So, don't overpay.  But, do check out the lot and see what was found.

1995 Unproduced Ninja Commandos, Budo, Flint, Knockdown, Stormshadow, Road Pig

07. 1990 Bullhorn - 394 page views

Bullhorn was one of my earliest profiles.  So, I went back to him 22 years later and it turns out that a lot of people really like him.  Again, there's a lot of interest in 1990's figures from younger collectors who grew up with them.

1990 Bullhorn, 1985 Flint

06. 2022 Duke - 395 page views

Here we find the first of the 2022 Hasbro Pulse figures.  Duke is probably the weakest figure due to the poor face paint.  But, he also has the best accessory complement.  And, being new, people stopped by to check him out.

2022 Duke, Hasbro Pulse, Cobra Commander

05. 1987 Mercer - 395 page views

Mercer was yet another retread profile as I had looked at him in the site's infancy.  But, he proved to be very popular.

1987 Mercer

04. Rarities - Remco S.I.T. Figures - 401 page views

This post is probably my favorite of 2022.  I never knew about these guys until I did some research into a figure that my buddy Darkwise found in a lot.  It lead me down a rabbit hole of really interesting figure designs that were among the later Remco releases.  These figures are tough to find, especially in good condition.  But, the series is full of fun characters that easily fit with Joes of the era.

REMCO SIT Figures

03. Rarities - Power Commandos 2022 Update - 421 page views

Power Commandos tend to do pretty well when I write about them.  And, the 2022 update on the figures and the actual order in which they were released climbed to the third most popular post in 2022.

Power Commandos, Lucky Bell, Mummy Mask,

02. 2022 Stormshadow - 459 page views

Stormshadow and Snake Eyes were the first Pulse figures released in 2022.  I wasn't too high on them.  But, the Stormshadow has its uses.  And, enough people were interested to read about him to bring him in as the second most viewed profile of the year.

2022 Stormshadow, Stinger, Hasbro Pulse

01. 2022 Cobra Officer - 515 page views

And, the most viewed profile of the year was the 2022 Cobra Officer.  People like army builders.  Though, they haven't liked them enough to sell through Hasbro's stock.  But, it was my most viewed post of the year, even if it's pretty much the exact figure from 40 years earlier, just with newer plastic.

2022 Cobra Officer, Hasbro Pulse, Black Major, Cobra Commander, Cobra Trooper, Stormshadow

In all, the year was kind of "meh".  While the Pulse releases were exciting, the final products didn't break any new ground.  I do think they'll age better than we think, much like the 2000's figures have.  But, they still don't really generate excitement.  We'll see how the Skystriker figures do.

I'm not hugely optimistic that we'll see any new o-ring figures in 2023.  Supposedly, there was going to be a third Transformer crossover with a 1983 inspired Destro.  And, there are now reports of a transforming Thunder Machine with Zartan and Zarana.  But, both of the other Transformers have stagnated at retail and Amazon reduced the Baroness by 35% or more to try to move the leftovers.  And, the remaining production run of the Stinger still hasn't shown up.  I do think we'll another o-ring Haslab in 2023, likely after the Skystriker has shipped.  Joe has been one of the few Haslab bright spots since 2021.  So, I think we'll get another shot at one.

I'll talk a bit about Super7 figures in January as I have my first one and really like how that line is approached as compared to Hasbro's handling of the 3 3/4" scale.  Maybe I'll finally finish the Bugg profile I started in 2017 and haven't gotten around to cleaning up.  And, maybe I'll get to kvetch about the Transformers crossovers some more.

As always, thanks to you all for stopping by.  We'll cross 1,000,000 page views in April or May next year.  That's a huge milestone for the site.  I appreciate everyone who stops by to read, browse and even comment on the content here.  If there's something you'd like to see in 2023, let me know.  Until then, I hope your 2023 is better than your 2022!

The Top 10 - 2021

2021 has been an interesting year.  We've seen massive amounts of factory customs.  There were a few "retro" items available.  And, most importantly, Hasbro is bringing back some vintage Joe style figures with commemorative releases and the Haslab Skystriker.  2022 has much for Joe collectors to look forward to.  Promises of a variety of products that should hit everyone's collecting niche abound.

Looking through this year's top 10, it's an eclectic mix.  Numbers 2 and 3 are really surprising.  But, in general, the popularity seems to be all over the place.  The site saw a massive uptick in visitors as both the pandemic raged and the Snake Eyes movie drew close to release.  Even after the movie's disappearance from popular culture, though, the traffic has remained high.  The site got 189,000 page views this year.  That's a substantial increase from years past.

Without further ado, here are the top 10 posts in terms of pageviews that were released in 2020.  I put that caveat on there because the most viewed post on the site in all of 2021 was, once again, the 1984 MANTA.  I don't know why.  But, it more than tripled the number 1 post that was new in 2021.

10. 1986 Claymore

Claymore is a "rare" figure who's price has far outstripped his value to a collection.  As I got him for Christmas in 1986, though, he's somewhat important to me.  And, his rarity always attracts eyeballs.

1986 Claymore, Leatherneck
9. 2017 Commando

Red Laser Army figures tend to do well.  Snake Eyes figures tend to do well.  So, combined, they clocked in as the 9th most popular new post on the site this year.

2017 Red Laser Army Commando, Factory Custom, 1997 Stalker

8. 1983 Hawk

Hawk is kind of a surprise.  I looked at the MMS last year, too.  And, it was one of the worst performing new profiles of the year.  So, to see the Hawk included with the vehicle get so many additional views just goes to show how valuable the inclusion of the drivers really was.

7. 2020 Black Major Bonecrusher

Bonecrusher was my pick for the best figure of 2020.  I still maintain that it's an excellent design that brings some needed life to the 1985 Snake Eyes mold.  It showing up there is no surprise.

6. 1987 Crystal Ball

Crystal Ball really shouldn't be among the most viewed profiles of the year.  But, I can also see how he does belong.  Everyone knows him.  And, sometimes, people just can't look away, even at something that's goofy and silly.

5. 2021 Zica Toys Riot Commando

To be honest, I thought the Riot Commando would have done better.  It's an awesome figure and I got him within days of his 1st release.  But, it seems this figure hasn't really caught on in the vintage Joe world.  I expected lots of photos of him to appear in the months after his release.  That hasn't happened.  And, the Riot Commando seems to be fading into obscurity.  That's an unjust fate for a solid figure with amazing paint applications that's priced right.

4. Chinese Toxo Zombie

This one kind of makes sense.  The Toxo Zombie has become a popular figure.  Obscure carded figures tend to perform well.  And, this is a relatively unknown foreign variant, too.  It all added up to a well read post.

3. 2001 Crossfire

Ugh.  Crossfire sucks.  I despise this figure and have since his release 20 years ago.  Yet, I must not be in tune with the community on this one as here he is, the third most viewed page on the site in 2021.  Controversy gets clicks, I guess.

2. Stargate Lt. Kawalsky

This one is surprising.  Stargate figures get zero mention in Joe groups.  And, while these figures include Joe accessories, they aren't all that exciting to anyone but variant nerds like myself.  But, I suspect the offbeat nature of the figure and the loose connection to Joe brought in many casual readers.

1. Haslab Skystriker

No surprise that the biggest Joe news of the year lead the site in traffic.  It wasn't a huge advantage, only about 30% more than Lt. Kawalsky.  But, nothing beat out the Skystriker announcement.  The night the Haslab funded was one of the most fun Joe collecting nights in my more than two decades of being a member of the online collecting community.  Here's to another one in 2022.

2021 Haslab Skystriker

Thus ends another year of Joe fandom.  We know we're getting o-ring figures in 2022.  We just don't know who and when.  But, it will happen.  And, assuming they aren't impossible to get, you'll probably see them here.  The night of the Skystriker funding was one of the most fun Joe world experiences of the past 20 years.  It's my hope that Hasbro can strike that kind of magic more often.

As 2022 is the 40th anniversary of the vintage Joe line, I'm going to take a different tact for the first part of the year and profile something each week in chronological order starting with 1982 through, at least 1994.  (I'll see how I feel about touching on post '94 years.)  It will follow my personal chronology with the line, how I grew with the line, abandoned it and then came back.

I hope you and yours have had a solid 2021 and wish you a better 2022.  We have much to look forward to this year and I will enjoy sharing it with you!
