The 1990 Metal Head was one of the figures from the 1990's that I saw as a teenager. A kid down the street had him and I thought he was awesome. To this day, Metal Head's design and specialty are a great addition to Cobra. You just don't see as much of him as you'd expect. He's one of those lost gems from 1990 that straddles the line between the generation of kids who grew up around the G.I. Joe Movie and those who latched on in the neon years. Here's the best of him from around the web.

Great figure from an awesome year, but difficult to find complete without broken pegs. There is a Battle Corps Metal Head that is easier to find unbroken but nowhere near as cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had both thin and thick peg versions, both broke and I was not being rough with them. The pegs on the thighs are just a bad design period.
DeleteI've always liked the idea of Metalhead, as he was 1 of the characters that stood out during the DIC era of the cartoon. Always liked how in the opening credits of the DIC Season, how they showed him off firing his missiles, as I always though it was cool, with no knowledge of how that would actually kill him in real life at the time. Though I would have to guess that there must be some sort of advance firing systems in that would protect him in fiction at least.
ReplyDeleteWill admit, I did forget how his character was presented in the DIC cartoon until a few years ago. Always though he was more on the unhindge side. Having said that, I do think you need to have a certain kind of mind in order to be a Walking Missile System.
I will say that in regards to Metalhead's helmet, if Hasbro at some point decided to do a approx 4" O-Ring homage to the 12" Adventure Team Bulletman, I think this figure's Bullet Shape like helmet would of been an ideal choice to used if Hasbro wanted to be on the cheap and not sculpt a new bullet shape head. Either the helmet is removable, or they just glue the helmet on the head to stay in for good.
